Jim Garrity is chief marketing officer and executive vice-president at Wachovia, the financial services corporation. In this role, he provides executive leadership to six business unit marketing teams and to centers of excellence that include media and agency management, sponsorships and alliances, customer communications, online marketing, creative services, and meetings and events services.

Before joining Wachovia in 1997, Mr. Garrity was vice-president of communications at the Compaq computer corporation, where he managed advertising, global brand positioning, public relations, corporate identity, Internet communications, and events sponsorship. He also held, for more than 20 years, a variety of sales and marketing management positions at IBM, including director of U.S. advertising.

Mr. Garrity has a B.S. in management from Fairfield University.
